Brittney Weissman has worked at the intersection of advocacy, healthcare, and public policy for 20 years. For eight+ years prior to joining Hollywood 4WRD as its inaugural Executive Director, she was the first Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Greater Los Angeles County where she provided community, hope, and policy advocacy for everyone affected by mental illness, their families, and friends in Los Angeles County.
Ms. Weissman has chaired the Los Angeles County Mental Health Commission, a volunteer body appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to advise and make recommendations related to the delivery of quality mental health care. She sits on several countywide criminal justice reform committees and is a founding member of the TRIESTE pilot implementation work group, which focuses on patient-centered systems change and the right to a purposeful life. She is a Civilian Advisor to the LA County Sheriff’s Department on mental health and is an Advisory Board Member for Heart Forward LA, an advocacy organization promoting bold system change and advancing radical hospitality for mental health recovery based on global best practice.
Before joining NAMI, she worked in various capacities for The California Endowment, California's largest private health foundation. She also held short-term leadership positions with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and Alliance Healthcare Foundation in San Diego.
Ms. Weissman earned a double Bachelors in American Studies and Sociology from Occidental College with Phi Beta Kappa distinction and a MA in Public Policy from University of Southern California, and was a fellow with the Southern California Leadership Network through the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
